Islam is the religion Muslims study. Islam started when a person named Muhammad started seeing that people were started to keep there wealth to themselves. One day when Muhammad was praying in a cave an angel came and told him that there are only one god and his name is "Allah" which meant the one god. Well that was surprising because people those days they were worshiping many gods. Muhammad told his wife quickly, and she believed him. Everyday he went to visit the cave the angel told him more about Allah.
After many years of the angel telling him about Allah he finally started to tell people about Allah. A lot of people did not agree with him because that meant destroying all the statues of all the other gods. And they did not want to do that. So Muhammad ran away with his family and his followers to a city named Medina because people started to threaten him. One day the city Mecca, the city he was kicked out of, they then accepted him. Muhammad destroyed all the statues and locked up the Kaaba, the place where they worshiped the other gods. The words that the angel told Muhammad was written into a book called the Qur'an. People these days still study the Qur'an.
The five pillars of Islam are five things all Muslims have to do. The first pillar is to believe there is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet. The second pillar is to pray five times a day. The third pillar is to give to the poor and needy. The fourth pillar of Islam is to fast during the holy month of Ramandan. The fifth pillar was to go on a Hajj at least once to Mecca. The five pillars of Islam are very important to the Muslims. Like for example, the ten commandments are very important to the Christians.

Rome was a small town at first then it turned to be a huge city. And grew very huge very fast surrounded by the Mediterranean sea. As it grew the first emperor was Augustus. Augustus was a great emperor. Augustus had power to do many things like declare war, raise taxes and, etc. In Rome there was many beautiful buildings, art, engineering. Sometimes people still build buildings similar to some of the roman buildings. For example, the California State Capitol in Sacramento looks familiar to the Pantheon's dome.
One of the religions that were in Rome was Christianity. Christianity spread quickly through Rome. And is still a famous religion today. One of the things that made the Roman Empire fall was how big it was. Which made them defenseless when the barbarians came even if they had the strongest army in the world. Then had no choice but to split their empire in two. Still that did not stop the barbarians only half of the empire survived another 1000 of years. This is how chaos started through the empire. People were getting very poor and hungry. There was one point where the Romans were paying the goths not to attack them. Those years were called the “Sack of Rome”. When Rome fell the half that survived for another thousand years was called the Byzantine Empire.
The Byzantine Empire grew to be a huge trading city. Who was ruled by Justinian and Theodora. Justinian and Theodora were great rulers who simplified laws for Romans and also ordered the beautiful buildings and churches, including Hagia Sophia. And at least tried there best to keep the empire together as long as they could.
